*Some of the example flame files I'm using as a proof of correctness and shipped with this implementation are created/authored by some incredible fractal artists

using a variety of open source/free apps like Apophysis and Fractorium among the most popular.

The fractal Flame algorithm for SideFX Houdini

Fractal flames are a member of the iterated function system class of fractals created by Scott Draves in 1992.

"The fractal flame algorithm is distinguished by three innovations over text-book IFS: non-linear functions, log-density display, and structural coloring. In combination with standard techniques of anti-aliasing and motion blur the result is striking image variety and quality. The guiding principle of the design of the algorithm is to expose and preserve as much of the information content of the attractor as possible."

Implementation of the original "The fractal Flame algorithm": FLAM3

CVEX has been used to implement the algorithm in its entirety. Although it's not a real-time thing, it will be a lot of fun if you have a powerful CPU (two powerful CPUs are even better).

FLAM3 for SideFX Houdini generate a live point cloud of the fractal Flame being worked on, witch is the actual render. From there to the final image it is left to the users ( aka points rendering ). With Karma you will then render the generated Fractal Flames in nearly real time.

Highly inspired by Apophysis software and its workflow design. 8 vars per iterator. ( 3 pre variations, 4 variations plus 1 post variation each iterator ).
For the finalXform (FF) you will have 1 pre variation, 2 variations and 2 post variations available.
